    Русский глагол скользить употребляется с любыми одушевленными и неодушевленными существительными и не уточняет характер скольжения. В английском языке используются разные слова для разных видов существительных: одни глаголы только для неодушевленных предметов, другие для одушевленных и неодушевленных. Кроме того, английские соответствия подчеркивают характер скольжения.
    1. to slip — скользить, скользнуть, соскользнуть, поскользнуться (скользить быстро, на короткое расстояние; поскользнуться и упасть; двигаться быстро, плавно, неслышно, тайком; быстрыми и незаметными движениями передавать что-либо): The ring easily slipped off her finger. — Кольцо легко соскользнуло у нес с пальца. Suddenly Frank slipped and fell down off the edge of the roof. — Неожиданно Фрэнк поскользнулся и упал с края крыши. My fool slipped and I nearly fell. — Я поскользнулся и чуть не упал. Nobody saw her slip silently into the house. — Никто не видел, как она тихо проскользнула в дом. Weeks slipped slowly by. — Неделя за неделей проходили медленно. The road was slippery and the car skidded and turned over. —Дорога была скользкая, машину занесло, и она перевернулась.
